SoA Heartland Fundraiser!
I'm hoping that as many of you as possible can join us at a fund-raiser for Spirit of America next Tuesday night. Over the last couple of months, I've worked with two other people to start the New York chapter of this organization and this is our first event in NYC. We're hoping to raise as much money as possible and, just as importantly, spread the word about the charity to as many people as we can.
For $40 dollars, you'll get 2 hours of beer, wine, and appetizers from Heartland Brewery. I know that most of you, with very minimal effort, can make that an extremely attractive offer.
The details are as follows:
Spirit of America Bar Night
6-8pm, Tuesday, August 24, 2004
Heartland Brewery @ Union Square West and 17th St
Here's the link to the evite.
For those who don't know, Spirit of America is an organization that helps Americans serving in Iraq and Afghanistan help people in need in those countries. They coordinate with the people on the ground (soldiers, sailors, marines, diplomats, aid workers) to get desperately needed goods and gifts of goodwill to the people affected by the war. Recent projects have included sending sporting equipment, clothing, toys and school supplies to children, tools and sewing machines to craftsmen, and television equipment to help start up local stations in Iraq. Regardless of your political leanings, this is a way to make a difference in the lives of people in these war-torn countries, while delivering a message of goodwill from the American people.
For more information, you can visit us on the web or come to the event. If you can't make it, you can also donate online if you like.
This is the first social coordinator role I've had (and the first event I've organized) since being DEC liquor chair at Princeton, and while I can't promise that level of raucousness, it should be a good time for a good cause -- so please help me make it a success. If you think you will make it, please send me an e-mail or respond to the e-vite so that we can try to get some idea of the turnout.
Hope to see you there.
